New 33 Acre Park in Miami

New 33 Acre Park in Miami

Downtown Miami is set to expand its public spaces with the addition of a new 33-acre park. Part of a broader $840 million project, this park will be nestled beneath the newly constructed double-decker Interstate 395. Designed to increase traffic flow efficiency from the Dolphin Expressway to the MacArthur Causeway, the area beneath the highway will be transformed into a vibrant public space.

This lush corridor will be a communal hub that unites diverse neighborhoods such as Overtown, downtown Miami, and the Omni district. The park will feature amenities like an amphitheater, dog park, playground, café, athletic court, and a pedestrian bridge that spans over commuter rails, further enhancing connectivity and walkability in the area. The project will run from Overtown’s Gibson Park to the Perez Art Museum along Biscayne Bay and is expected to be completed by summer 2026.

This development comes at a pivotal time for Miami, as the city gears up to host matches for the FIFA World Cup in 2026. Selected as one of the host cities, Miami will see up to six matches at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, bringing an international spotlight to the region. The city’s rich cultural tapestry and history of hosting major sporting events make it an ideal venue for the world’s most-watched sporting event.

As the park’s completion coincides with the World Cup, this park will likely become a focal point for fans and visitors. The new public space and the influx of international tourists promise to elevate Miami’s status as a global destination for sports and culture. As the park’s design and name are still being finalized, the public has a unique opportunity to contribute through an online survey, allowing the community to leave a lasting mark on this transformative project.
